How to use makeup to pretend you're not tired after a late night

Getting up to go to the office today will have been tricky for many Brits.

Post-Bank Holiday weekend, and with a flurry of festivals taking place, waking up feeling refreshed was always unlikely.

But if you still have to go ahead with a busy week after a full on few days, makeup can be a helping hand to ‘faking it till you make it’, as makeup artist Levi-Jade Taylor says.

There are simple tricks in doing your makeup that can feign a fresh, awake face – worth bookmarking for any morning you’re feeling and looking exhausted.

Levi-Jade tells us one key thing is to brighten skin – instantly it’ll perk up the rest of the face.

‘Opting for glowy skin on tired days is the best way to achieve a healthy look,’ she tells

‘Go for a highlighting primer that has a smoothing, glowy finish on the skin to brighten and blur the skin at once.

‘I use these products on their own with concealer or for a fuller coverage, as a primer underneath foundation.’

She adds that ‘concealer is a tired person’s best friend’, suggesting you go for one with buildable coverage so it can be used across the face, negating the need for foundation, too.

As if designed for this specific need, these recent makeup launches have been helping us get through tired days.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Magic Touch Concealer

This new concealer is thick, richly pigmented and creamy, making it perfect for covering up dark circles under eyes without drying them out.

Target this in your ‘problem’ areas and skip out on foundation for a fresh faced appearance, as this blends into skin seamlessly.

Morphe Cream Blush

‘A hint of blush also perks up the complexion in a flash – try a cream blush for a quick fix,’ Levi-Jade says.

A little goes a long way, so dab a small amount on your cheeks and blend out for a flush of healthy colour.

Adding vibrancy to the face will also give the appearance of looking more revitalised.

Victoria Beckham Beauty Bitten Lip Tint

Get it for £32 from Cult Beauty.

You probably won’t want to keep up with the hassle of maintaining a bold lip if you’re tired, so try a tint instead.

Pick a neutral shade close to your lip and that way you won’t have to worry about constantly topping it up.

Oskia Nutri-Bronze Adaptive Sheer Tinted Serum

Get it for £60 from Cult Beauty.

For fairer complexions, add this glowy tinted serum into base products to make them warmer and more radiant.

Rather than look like you spent the weekend in the pub, you’ll look as though you lightly tanned in the sun.
