Celebs who can’t stand Lindsay Lohan
At just 12 years old, Lindsay Lohan charmed millions, playing twins separated at birth — one American, one British — in the hit 1998 remake of The Parent Trap. Before long, she was dominating the teen movie landscape and becoming a millennial icon, starring in Freaky Friday, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, Herbie Fully Loaded, and, biggest and best of all, the enduring classic that is Mean Girls.
Launched into celebrity and armed with popularity and youth, Lohan quickly evolved into a hard-partying L.A. scenester and one of the most frequent topics of discussion in the mid-2000s world of tabloid magazines and brand-new gossip blogs. Before long, Hollywood cast Lohan for fewer roles and the star started more and more feuds with other famous people. She’s earned a reputation as someone who’s extremely difficult to work with, capable of alienating actresses, singers, and film directors. Here’s a peek at some of the celebs who can’t stand Lindsay Lohan.
Paris Hilton finds Lindsay Lohan "embarrassing"
Hyde was the hottest club in Los Angeles in the mid-2000s, which happened to be the golden age of the “celebutante.” Young, often blonde women famous for being the offspring of barons of industry had very little problem with paparazzi snapping photos of them as they left the club. It was at Hyde in May 2006 when the long-running feud between definitive celebutante Paris Hilton and club-hopping actress (and fellow paparazzi subject) Lindsay Lohan began.
The two women got into a confrontation, according to The Atlantic, over Lohan’s hanging around with Hilton’s ex-boyfriend, Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos. A couple of weeks later, oil heir Brandon Davis delivered an off-the-cuff tirade to TMZ in which he theorized about the nature of Lohan’s genitals in profane and crude detail. Hilton appeared in the video, laughing uproariously throughout. More public sparring occurred, but by the end of the year, Hilton and Lohan are friendly enough to be sat beside each other. It was but a tenuous peace that fizzled over the years.
In 2019, Hilton appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and was petitioned by the host to say three nice things about her former friend. Hilton instead called Lohan “beyond, lame, and embarrassing.”
Kim Kardashian threw shade at Lindsay Lohan
As Paris Hilton rocketed to fame, so too did fellow child of privilege Kim Kardashian. By the end of 2007, she was starring on her own reality series, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, permanently supplanting Paris Hilton as the most famous famous-for-being-famous person in America. With that title, she also seemingly inherited another element of Hilton’s reign: an animosity toward Lindsay Lohan.
In 2018, Kardashian did what she does best — that is, she posted a photo of herself on Instagram. The star was pictured sporting a braided hairstyle with the caption “Bo West,” implying she resembled the similarly-styled Bo Derek in the movie 10. As The Independent reported, this led to a lengthy conversation on social media about whether or not Kardashian adopting a historically African hairstyle constituted cultural appropriation.
Lindsay Lohan, once friendly with Kardashian, curtly commented (via The Independent), “I am confused.” In response, Kardashian wrote back, “You know what’s confusing… your sudden foreign accent.” Lohan later told Entertainment Tonight that as an actress, she’s partial to picking up different ones. “I think when I’m around certain dialects it changes each time,” she revealed. As for the Kardashian feud, Lohan said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen a year after the fact that she loves the reality TV star but “just was confused by the braids because she just had a baby” — which doesn’t really explain much. Kardashian, on the other hand, has remained mum.
The Masked Singer Australia cast feels some kind of way about Lindsay Lohan
While you might’ve expected Lindsay Lohan to materialize as a costume-clad performer on The Masked Singer, she instead landed a gig as one of the judges on the show’s Australian iteration. The American Lohan often seemed to have no clue as to the identities of the unmasked Australian celebs. According to Paper, she “smiled awkwardly and gave a detectable shrug” when an octopus was revealed to be Big Brother Australia host Gretel Kileen. According to local publication New Idea, producers fired Lohan at the end of the season. A source close to the show alleged, “She is being replaced.”
After shooting wrapped, one contestant revealed his annoyance with Lohan on his last episode. “I was at the back and I was waiting to come out,” contestant and former soccer star Wendell Sailor told The Kyle and Jackie O Show (via Daily Mail) that he was about to head out on stage to perform in his hot and heavy rhino costume, only to hear that Lohan was hungry and production was halted. “It was like an hour break!” Sailor opined. That corroborates the complaint of another Masked Singer judge, Dave Hughes, who claimed that Lohan’s lengthy smoke breaks would halt production for indefinite periods. According to the Daily Mail, he noted that one rehearsal eventually proceeded without Lohan, because they weren’t sure if she was ever going to return.
Avril Lavigne is apparently not a fan of Lindsay Lohan
By 2010, Avril Lavigne had established an image as a tough, no-nonsense pop star who fashioned herself as something of a punk rocker whereas Lindsay Lohan had established herself as a party animal who started drama. These reputations preceded both stars, leading to a clash at the Chateau Marmont hotspot in Hollywood. In May of that year, according to Page Six, Lavigne was hanging out with friends at a table in the establishment’s bar. Lohan was there, too, and went over to Lavigne and company to say hello — and the singer reportedly had none of it.
“As soon as she approached, Avril launched at her and said: ‘Get the hell out of my face, you are fake, you are a loser. I don’t like false people. Stay away from me and my friends,'” a witness was cited as saying. For her part, Lohan reportedly yelled at Lavigne not to threaten her and then attempted to get a security guard to kick Lavigne and her party out of the building. They refused, which allegedly caused Lohan to angrily leave the premises. Oof.
Kate Moss and Lindsay Lohan aren't exactly on good terms
Kate Moss was the “It Girl” of the early ’90s, one of the most extremely recognizable and sought after supermodels and fashion icons of the era. Approximately a decade later, Lindsay Lohan invited in the same sort of attention and public fascination as the young star of the moment. They also apparently have the same taste in guys, and that, for Moss, was a problem. Moss’ husband Jamie Hince, one-half of the indie rock group The Kills, worked with Lohan on some music in 2013 (which apparently never materialized), according to The Sun.
The following year, when Lohan temporarily moved to London to star in a production of the play Speed-the-Plow, The Sun claimed she looked up Hince — and Moss was not cool with that. Soon thereafter, Lohan and Moss ran into each other at the Chiltern Firehouse restaurant. “The argument went on for a while and Kate seemed extremely annoyed with Lindsay for contacting Jamie,” an insider reportedly told The Sun. “She was ranting about it to a fellow diner at the restaurant.”
Paul Schrader probably won't hire Lindsay Lohan ever again
Paul Schrader wrote some of the most controversial, provocative, and transgressive films of the last few decades, including Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and First Reformed, which he also directed. In 2013, he helmed The Canyons, a noir-ish erotic thriller laced with violence and lots of adult situations. It’s probably most famous for being the mainstream cinematic debut of prolific adult film star James Deen, and for the graphic nude scenes featuring his costar Lindsay Lohan.
Schrader’s experience working with Lohan left him irritated, to say the least. The film debuted at the Venice Film Festival, which Schrader set up to accommodate Lohan. “I shifted the film’s European premiere from Locarno to Venice so she could make her promised post-rehab appearance. But she did not show,” Schrader said in a since defunct Facebook post (via The Guardian).
The director said he was “mystified and disappointed” by Lohan’s “refusal to support The Canyons,” citing how she didn’t fulfill publicity promises, like showing up for ad campaign photo sessions or sitting for profiles with The New Yorker and Film Comment. Then again, Lohan was just as unreliable and frustrating on the set. “I hired her when no one else would,” Schrader added. “She fought to keep the role when I wanted to fire her for unreliability.”
If nothing else, Lindsay Lohan helped teach Grant Bowler patience
In 2012, Lindsay Lohan starred in a movie about celebrities whose scandalous offscreen lives rivaled that of Lohan’s. Titled Liz & Dick, the made-for-Lifetime flick featured Lohan as the eight-times married Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor. Grant Bowler portrayed Dick, or rather Richard Burton, a heavy drinker and marvelous actor who accounted for two of Taylor’s marriages. Critics were not kind to Liz & Dick, and shooting the thing was as annoying to make as it was for film writers to watch.
“There were exercises in patience and there were exercises in tolerance,” Bowler said of his experience acting alongside Lohan to Access Hollywood Live. “I believe it could have been smoother at times,” he continued, confirming that Lohan’s production stalling habits got him occasionally angry. The star diplomatically stated, “We certainly took our time in a lot of ways when I would have preferred to be shooting.” Overall, Bowler said he had to operate from the mindset of “whether we could knuckle down and get a film made.” They did, but just barely.
Hilary Duff didn't take kindly to the SNL skit about her beef with Lindsay Lohan
The feud between Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff all goes back to Aaron Carter. His and Duff’s romance began in 2000. “I was dating her for like a year-and-a-half and then I just got a little bored so I went and I started getting to know Lindsay,” Carter later told CNBC (via Us Weekly). According to Radar Online, Carter’s dalliance with Lohan came and went and Carter and Duff reunited before splitting for good in 2003.
A cold war between the two actresses ensued; they passive-aggressively showed up to each other’s movie premieres, according to E! News. In 2004, Lohan ramped things up when hosting Saturday Night Live. “You might know me from the pages of Us Weekly as the girl who’s always fighting with Hilary Duff,” Lohan quipped in her monologue. Then, she brought out her supposed rival, portrayed by Rachel Dratch. Lohan apologized, to which the fake Duff responded, “If I ever sent out a mass email to everyone at the Disney corporation, saying that you are addicted to laxatives and your hair is a weave, then I’m sorry, too.”
“I don’t think it’s an honor to be made fun of on Saturday Night Live,” Duff told Access Hollywood. “I’m not here to talk bad about her like she talks bad about me all the time.” Things eventually settled down and by 2008, Duff told Allure (via People), the two were “fine.”
That ship has sailed for Samantha Ronson and Lindsay Lohan
Musician and DJ Samantha Ronson dated Lindsay Lohan from 2008 to 2010, and photographers dutifully followed everywhere they went to document the relationship. Ronson didn’t much care for the constant invasion of privacy. “I scowl in pictures because I don’t want a f***ing camera in my face,” Ronson told The Daily Beast, which cited her “penchant for raising a middle finger in defiance.”
After the end of the romance with Lohan, Ronson remained hesitant to speak directly about it, choosing to let her music do the talking. “I didn’t want to make a record where people would say, ‘This song is about that.’ But I think there’s also a way to keep things specific and private without losing a connection with the listener,” she said, hinting that certain material on her album Chasing the Reds was absolutely about Lohan.
The song “Sometimes When You Win, You Lose” includes lyrics like “And we started this war on the same side / Now I feel just like a hostage in the room / But I’m trying to find a way out alive.” Not exactly a glowing assessment of a former flame, but should people guess that Ronson is referring to Lohan? “Maybe they’d be right. Maybe they’d be wrong,” she mused. “I wrote that song when I was with the person that it’s about.” Gosh, that’s even more heartbreaking.
Lauren Hastings probably invite Lindsay Lohan over anytime soon
You may not be too familiar with Lauren Hastings’ name, but her face may seem at least vaguely familiar to you. She modeled extensively in the early 2000s, notably in a bunch of TV commercials for Old Navy. She also made headlines over an unfortunate alleged incident relating to Lindsay Lohan. It all went down in 2008 when Columbia University student Masha Markova told the New York Post that after attending the same private party as Lohan in New York’s Meatpacking District, her $11,000 mink coat went missing. She later saw Lohan wearing it in a paparazzi photo published by OK! magazine.
A few days after Markova claims about Lohan stealing her coat were published, Hastings released allegations of her own. The model told Buzznet (via People) that during a party thrown by her house-sitter, Lohan helped herself to a few thousand bucks worth of stuff out of her room. “Basically, I have two closets, a lot of the stuff was missing out of one and the next closet was almost completely empty,” Hastings claimed, adding that five witnesses can confirm “they saw Lindsay Lohan basically in my closet, handling a bag of clothes to her bodyguard.”
Lindsay Lohan may have earned a spot on these stars' black lists
Let’s be real, okay? Celebrity gossip ultimately boils down to one overriding question: What celebrities have slept with each other? In 2014, after providing the entertainment news industry with a full decade’s worth of salacious stories relating to clubbing, not wearing underwear in public, drinking heavily, and getting arrested, Lohan gave the world exactly what it wanted.
In Touch Weekly alleged that Lohan made a handwritten list of every bedroom partner she ever had — which included mostly the names of famous people. Among the 36 names on the list reported to be Lohan’s were James Franco and photographer Terry Richardson.
Lohan later confirmed ownership of the list on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen (via Los Angeles Times), saying she’d made the list as “the fifth step” in her Alcoholics Anonymous recovery. Franco and Richardson, however, didn’t quite understand why they were on the list of Lohan’s conquests. Franco told The Howard Stern Show (via The Independent) that he only made out with the actress and “it was such a long time ago.” He continued, saying, “I swear on my mother’s life that I did not have sex with her.” Richardson likewise denied having been intimate with the star. “Somehow she said we spent a romantic night making love at the Chateau Marmont,” Richardson told The Cut. “Which never happened. Then, on the internet, people are like, ‘He did this and that.’ But it is totally untrue.”
