BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker welcomed financial journalist Martin Lewis to the ”wide-awake club” on Twitter today. The presenter, who is on TV screens at 6am weekday mornings, reassured the presenter that he will be “great” when he co-hosts Good Morning Britain with Susanna Reid from Monday.

The father-of-three, 44, made his comments after Martin spoke of his nerves ahead of his stint on the live ITV show.

The Money Show host shared his thoughts as he signed off social media for the weekend, yesterday evening.

He tweeted: “Have a lovely weekend. I’m signing off now, as always, for some family time.

“I’ll see you (if you watch) bright and early on @GMB on Monday morning – sandwiched between @susannareid100 and @CharlotteHawkns.

“Can’t wait (well a bit nervous if honest),” Martin added, in view of his 1.1 million followers.

The 49-year-old, who is the founder of the Money Saving Expert (MSE) website, has been a guest on the show on numerous occasions, but this will be his first time at the helm.

It comes after former GMB host Piers Morgan quit the show in March.

Dan, who has hosted a rival show on the BBC for five years, took to Twitter to show his support.

“I’m sure you’ll be great Martin. Welcome to the wide-awake club,” he wrote in reply.

Many other social media users took to the comments section of the post to wish him luck for next week.

“Oh My Gosh Martin. What a brilliant idea to have you presenting with the GMB Team. Have an amazing time on Monday,” one person wrote.

“Blooming brilliant! Looking forward to it. For the first time since PM [Piers Morgan] left I feel like someone is in the chair who can hold people to account. You’ll be Fab! Good luck!”

Sharing Martin’s post on her own Twitter account, Susanna said she was “looking forward to it” too.

The regular presenter has been hosting the show with a number of different co-hosts following the departure of Piers, who she worked with for almost six years.

So far Richard Madeley, Alastair Campbell and Bill Turnbull have all had stints on the show.

In the very near future, Dan will also be looking for a new co-presenter.

His BBC Breakfast colleague Louise Minchin announced she was quitting the programme after almost 20 years on the famous red sofa.

Dan described her exit as like a “break up”.

The 52-year-old said she wanted to stop setting her alarm for 3.40am, when she announced the news on the programme earlier this month.

“Life will be poorer without her on the sofa. She’s the best,” he wrote online at the time.
