EastEnders star Luisa Bradshaw-white has recalled the moment in her late teens when she accidentally came out as gay. The 46-year-old actress said she gasped when she first said out loud that she fancied women.

The BBC star, who is best known for playing Tina Carter in EastEnders, said the exchange happened while talking to a group of new friends.

Luisa had not considered herself to be gay before that moment.

“The realisation came when I was around 19 and talking with some new friends,” she divulged to Metro.co.uk.

“They both said they liked women and without thinking, I replied, ‘Oh yes, me too!’

“I sort of gasped as it was the first time I had even considered that I might not be straight,” she added.

Luisa went on to say that the brief conversation had had a big impact on her life.

“I got the best introduction to being a gay person you could ask for,” she continued.

The former Holby City star said that although she’d had fun “embracing her gayness,” she always knew that she wanted to settle down and have a family.

When Luisa was 25, she met and fell in love with her future wife Annette Yeo.

The soap-star described her partner as her “soulmate”.

The couple tied the knot in 2015.

Luisa’s career has gone from strength to strength, after first finding fame in long-running children’s TV show Grange Hill 30 years ago.

The London-born star played Maria Watts in the school drama series from 1991 to 1994.

She went on to appear in several episodes of The Bill as well as Birds of a Feather and A Touch of Frost before landing the part of Lorna Rose in Bad Girls.

Two years later she was cast in the medical drama Holby City.

Luisa played Lisa Fox, a midwife who went on to become a clinical matron on the hospital’s general surgical ward, in the BBC show for four years until 2005.

However, eight years ago the actress took on the role that she is probably best known for playing.

That of Tina, the sister of Shirley Carter (played by Linda Henry) in EastEnders.

Earlier this year, she took on a very different project and made her first appearance as a panelist on Loose Women.
