Strictly Come Dancing returned this weekend as the stars of the dancing competition faced their first elimination. Now BBC Breakfast star Dan Walker has opened up about how “gutted” he is that Nina Wadia exited the show.

This weekend, the stars of Strictly took to the dancefloor in hopes of impressing the judges and the audience at home.

Sadly, one star had to depart the series after just two weeks of dance routines.

Following a dance-off against Katie McGlynn and Gorka Marquez, it was Nina who was the unlucky star.

She and her partner Neil Jones exited after performing their Tango to Would I Lie To You? by Eurythmics.

Reacting to the news, Dan took to social media to bid farewell to his co-star.

In view of his 725,000 followers, he penned: “I know it’s only a TV show but I am gutted to see @Nina_Wadia leave.

“Nina is an amazing woman who lights up every room she walks into with her smile, kindness and sense of humour.

“We will all miss her,” the broadcaster added.

Dan is partnered with professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova on the show.

This weekend saw them perform a Paso Doble and score 26 points.

They avoided the dreaded dance-off in Sunday evening’s show thanks to their combined judges and audience scores.

Speaking on her exit from the series, Nina said: “It’s been really fun, thank you so much. [Neil] is incredible, thank you.”

Her professional partner Neil added: “You’ve been a dream.

“Second partner on the show for me. I wouldn’t have wanted anybody else.

“You’ve been fantastic and so much fun.

“Literally, we’re like a married couple – you’ve got both husbands here tonight!

“It’s been so much fun together, you said you wanted to dance and you’ve done two fantastic dances.

“I’m really, really, really proud of you.”

Neil and Nina will appear on the spin-off series It Takes Two later today for their exit interview.

Strictly Come Dancing returns next week with the highly anticipated movie week.
