Kanye West ‘announces first presidential campaign rally in South Carolina’
Kanye West will reportedly host his first presidential campaign rally in South Carolina today just hours after begging fans for ballot votes.
The Gold Digger rapper announced earlier this month that he plans on running for US president ahead of the election in November.
And now Kanye’s said to be taking the next big step in his campaign by throwing his first rally at the Exquis Event Center in North Charleston on Sunday at 5pm.
According to ABC News, Kanye sent out a press release stating that the event is for ‘registered guests only’ and those wishing to attend will have to sign up at the rapper’s new campaign website Kanye2020.country.
It’s expected that all attendees will be asked to sign a Covid-19 liability release form and will have to social distance as well as wear a mask. Kanye will also reportedly host a pre-rally press event.
Hours before news of his first campaign event, Kanye sent a tweet asking fans to vote for him to get on the South Carolina ballot.
‘Hi guys please sign up to put me on the ballot in South Carolina at any of these locations You can also sign up at the website,’ he tweeted along with venues including Chuck Town Bar and Grill, Tia Banquet Hall and Adams Run Civic Center.
However, it seems Kanye may have been out of time as the deadline to register as an independent candidate in South Carolina was 15 July, and the state does not allow write-ins candidates. He had already missed six deadlines when he announced his presidential bid earlier this month.
The 43-year-old did manage to get a spot on the ballot in Oklahoma, where independent candidates are required to pay $35,000 (£27,400).
It was also reported that Kanye filed a Statement of Candidacy, which shows he has raised or spent over $5,000 (£3,965) on campaign expenses and elevates him to candidacy status under federal campaign law.
Kanye and his BDY party (aka The Birthday Party) have already filed the first set of documents with the Federal Election Committee. The form, Statement of Organization, declares that the Kanye 2020 committee will serve as ‘Principal Campaign Committee’ and that Kanye is its candidate.
During a recent interview with Forbes, Kanye announced his Cody, Wyoming neighbour and spiritual coach Michelle Tidball as his first choice for running mate although it’s not known if she has accepted the offer.
