Kate Garraway shared a heartfelt Father’s Day tribute to her husband as he fights to recover from coronavirus. The Good Morning Britain presenter’s husband Derek Draper was admitted to hospital in March after displaying symptoms of coronavirus and struggled to breathe.

The 53-year-old has since spoken out about her husband’s health as she shared an emotional Instagram post yesterday.

The ITV star admitted there was a “long road ahead” for the family despite Derek now being “Covid-free”.

As she marked Father’s Day on Sunday, Kate said it had been “tough” for her and their loved ones.

In view of her 857,000 Instagram followers, the GMB favourite posted a series of snaps of Derek with the couple’s children, daughter Darcey, 14 and son William, 11.

Kate thanked her ITV colleagues for giving her the opportunity to speak about the family’s struggles but added she is “overwhelmed” by the road ahead.

“Whatever happens next I’m afraid it is going to be a long road, with an uncertain end that isn’t even nearly in sight right now,” Kate wrote.

“But this week I am refocusing on hope that as a family we are going to pull together with the support of friends and get through everything come what may.”

She continued: “I know that the amazing people keeping Derek alive, stand shoulder to shoulder with me in NEVER giving up on him and, of course, hope that my wonderful Derek is going to keep fighting this and eventually start to slowly recover.”(sic)

Kate went on: “After all we are all having to do that aren’t we in one way or another – this ghastly time has affected us all & life deals us blows that we just have to bounce back from & celebrate the good.

“This Father’s Day I am sending you all the love & positivity in the world – let’s seek out the joy! #staypositive #hope #fathersday.”

The ITV favourite has been keeping fans updated about Derek’s condition in recent weeks.

Speaking on GMB, Kate told her co-stars Ben Shephard and Ranvir Singh that Derek was still “very, very sick” as he remained in a coma.

She said: “It’s a virus, it’s a little bit like a computer virus I think.

“It’s like the doctors manage one bit extraordinarily well and there seems to be a flicker of hope and then other things emerge and they’re fighting that and it’s affected him from the top of his head to the tip of his toes.”

Kate revealed that despite her spouse now being Covid-free, the virus has “wreaked damage” to his body.

The GMB star’s emotional Father’s Day post comes after Kate’s I’m A Celebrity co-star Roman Kemp admitted he has been “sending messages” to her every day in a new interview.

“All I can say is Kate has all the love in the world from myself and my dad and my whole family,” he told Metro.co.uk.

Roman went on: “We’re praying for her every day and we’re always sending messages and doing whatever we can to make her life any bit easier.

The Capital radio presenter added that Kate’s unfortunate circumstances puts “life into perspective”.

He added: “And I think it’s a real thing that makes everyone put their own life into perspective, because what she’s going through right now is more important than anything.”
