Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, and Audra McDonald Pounding Drinks and Singing in Bathrobes Is Essential Viewing

When I down cocktails in a bathrobe on Instagram Live for hours on end, only my mom tunes in to tell me to go to bed. But when Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, and Audra McDonald do it, it’s magical. Is it because I don’t have Oscars and Tony awards overflowing my childhood trophy case!? Honestly, I can’t even be mad because they did the damn thing during the Take Me to the World: A Sondheim 90th Birthday Celebration livestream last night.

To celebrate Stephen Sondheim, the legendary composer and lyricist who is responsible for your fave songs from West Side Story and Into the Woods, Broadway and Hollywood stars came together for a two-and-a-half-hour online concert. If you didn’t catch it, know the likes of Bernadette Peters, Patti LuPone, Kristin Chenoweth, Sutton Foster, Aaron Tveit, Katrina Lenk, Beanie Feldstein, and Ben Platt were among many, many others who joined Meryl, Christine, and Audra.

For their part, the trio, which def needs to become a recording supergroup, sang “The Ladies Who Lunch” in front of their webcams in bathrobes and while sipping several cocktails that soon turned into straight liquor.

This bit of the concert celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Tony-award-winning musical’s opening night, and they absolutely did it justice.

Catch me reenacting this during my next Zoom happy hour and my first post-lockdown brunch! Blame Thank Meryl, Christine, and Audra!
