Our Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen has opened up in an exclusive chat with Express.co.uk about how Brexit has affected her farming life. The Yorkshire Shepherdess explained her plans to help avoid hardship, admitting “nobody can predict” what will happen next.

Amanda is well known to Channel 5 viewers for fronting the series Our Yorkshire Farm.

The show is all about her family as they go about their daily life on their Ravenseat farm in Yorkshire.

Of course, this year, farming is one section of the industry that has been impacted by the Brexit deal.

However, according to Amanda, she hasn’t felt any impact of this yet.

Speaking to Express.co.uk about this, she explained: “Not as yet.

“If you can imagine where we’re right at the very top, geographically and metaphorically speaking as well, where we’re right in the hills.

“So it takes a long time for things to feed through.

“As it stands, we mainly produce lamb, but we’re in countryside stewardships and we also rely on tourists, and of course this year has turned everything on its head.

“So this year farming wise, farming has been good, farming has gone on alright.

“But of course the tourist trade has just disappeared.”

The farmer also opened up about how she’s planning for the future, should any impact be on its way.

She added: “I don’t know what the future brings.

“But I believe that our ethos of diversification, which can mean anything from tourists to writing to media, will mean that there is always something to fall back on.

“That is what I tell children, specialising is all well and good until that particular market disappears, then you’re stuck.

“If you do a bit of this and a bit of that, you know you’re okay.”

She continued: “You just ride waves of storms and see what’s going to happen.

“Nobody can predict, that’s the kind of thing that will keep you awake at night.”

Amanda was speaking as part of a new campaign she’s launched with Premier Inn called Ewe Tube.

This features several videos filmed at her farm, which will be available to hotel guests.

The idea is to help them get a better night’s sleep by counting sheep, as well as getting a dose of the countryside.

Speaking about the campaign, Amanda said: “It’s all to do with resting easy and getting a good night’s sleep.

“Because, of course, what do people always say when you need to go to sleep, what should you do? Count sheep.

“Now I have to say it doesn’t work for me because counting sheep, I’m a shepherd.

“So usually that brings all the problems, ‘I’m missing a sheep!’

“But, generally, people apparently do still count sheep.”

Amanda Owen has teamed up with Premier Inn to help the nation rest easy, by creating the brand’s first ever video streaming platform, Ewe Tube, dedicated to encouraging sleep by digitally counting sheep. To check out Ewe Tube please see here.
