Get it finished

Rod recalled to Johnnie Walker on BBC Arts Radio: “They used to have to lock me up with a bottle of wine and take the key and say, ‘Get it finished in the next four or five hours’. That would work.

“I’d hear them all in the corridor, laughing, at the Holiday Inn: ‘Oh yeah look at Stewart. He is there trying to finish the lyrics’.”

His biggest hits include Tonights the Night and The First Cut Is The Deepest, but he often worried that his song lyrics could be seen as cheesy.

He added: “That’s the worst feeling, when you think you’re writing absolute tripe.”

However, the star has gone on to sell more than 250 million records worldwide.

In 2018 he released his 30th studio album Blood Red Roses which included new versions of hit songs including Maggie May, and It Takes Two featuring Robbie Williams.

Meanwhile, in his personal life, Rod has been married three times and is currently wed to Penny Lancaster.

Recently the couple enjoyed a date night together in London’s Mayfair at private member’s club Annabel’s.

The couple were spotted laughing as a prankster pulled down his trousers after they had finished up their dinner.

As Rod lead Penny down the stairs of the club, a man in beige chinos dropped his trousers to show his bare bottom.

The couple were seen giggling by paparazzi before they quickly moved past the man alongside their friends.

They then got in the car, and swiftly departed the venue.
