Strictly's Neil Jones denies he's gay after Seann Walsh sexuality jibe

Strictly Come Dancing star Neil Jones has denied he’s gay, after Seann Walsh made jokes about his sexuality.

The 36-year-old split from wife Katya Jones last year, 10 months after Katya, 31, was pictured kissing her Strictly dance partner and comedian Seann, 34.

Back in December 2018, following the scandal, Walsh joked during a show: ‘Before the show, the newspapers were complaining they didn’t know who I was.

‘You know who I am now, motherf***ers. I’m the guy who kissed a gay man’s wife.’

Walsh reportedly then backtracked while laughing, saying: ‘Please don’t report that. I’m only joking. I’m just here trying to make you laugh.’

Neil didn’t address the jibes at the time, but addressed his sexuality in an interview with The Sun.

The professional dancer said: ‘In ballroom there’s a lot of straight guys. But mum was always like, “It’s a shame you’re not gay because we could go shopping together”.

‘And I was thinking, “whether I’m gay or not there’s no chance, you take forever”.’

After the pictures of Seann and Katya that rocked Strictly emerged, both parties issued public apologies, while Seann was dumped by his girlfriend of five years, Rebecca Humphries.

Neil said he and his wife of six years were working things out privately, telling the Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine: ‘It was a shock. And we had to work it out between ourselves, to understand what had happened.

‘But I wasn’t going to allow that one little thing to get in the way of ten very happy years.’

The pair continued to live together along with fellow dancer and former Strictly champ Joanne Clifton.

However, in August 2019 – just before the 17th series of Strictly began – the couple confirmed they had split.

They announced in a statement: ‘After 11 years, we have made the mutual decision to separate.

‘We will always love each other, just in a different way as friends. This will never change what a great team we make and we are really proud of everything we have achieved together.

‘Our shared love of dance means we will keep working and dancing together as well as exploring individual projects. No matter what we do we will always support and respect each other.

‘We wish one another every happiness and we will remain the best of friends. We are really looking forward to getting back to the ballroom and can’t wait to keep on dancing.’

The 2019 series of Strictly marked Neil’s first with a partner, as he danced with Alex Jones while his ex was paired with Mike Bushell.

However, while both dancers are set to return, it remains to be seen if they’ll keep dancing in 2020, as the next series of Strictly remains up in the air due to the coronavirus pandemic.
