Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid, 50, has fronted the ITV news programme since its debut in 2014. Piers Morgan, 55, joined the show just one year later, and the presenting duo have since captivated audiences with their on-screen banter, cheeky swipes back and forth as well as hard-hitting interviews with politicians.

Susanna has opened up about the pair’s friendship on and off-screen in a new interview, where she cheekily described Piers as a “pincushion”.

The ITV favourite compared their relationship to that of puppet show Punch and Judy.

The small-screen star admitted that the pair often “spar” and “fight verbally” during their show.

Susanna commented: “Ben Shephard is much more like a warm hug, whereas Piers Morgan is like sitting next to a pincushion.

“We do fight like Punch and Judy, verbally. We’re sparring all the time.”

She added: “You say he takes up more of the oxygen, but I use my chunk of time, I hope, very wisely.”

The GMB host admitted that in the early days on the news programme she would often go home in tears, often times from the social media abuse she received.

“I used to get a lot of targeted abuse because someone didn’t like what the person sitting next to me said,” Susanna told The Times.

Last month, Susanna spoke out about being targeted by online trolls.

The presenter described the abuse she receives online as “toxic and horrible” but said she doesn’t allow it to discourage her.

“The abuse is so toxic and horrible, but you can’t be afraid of what people are going to say about you,” Susanna explained to Mail On Sunday’s You Magazine.

“Obviously, there are moments when I’m upset or I beat myself up about getting something wrong – and there are things that frighten me – but we do a good job and we enjoy what we do.”

She added: “I have moments of self-doubt, but I’ve been doing this a long time now.”

Piers has since cheekily reacted to Susanna’s candid interview as he took to Twitter and shared the article.

In view of his 7.7 million Twitter followers, Piers penned: “Great interview with my ‘elegant toreador’.”

The GMB host’s light-hearted swipe comes after Susanna was described as such in the candid interview.

Susanna was a co-presenter on BBC Breakfast alongside Bill Turnbull for 11 years before she made the move across to GMB.

In 2013, she finished as a runner-up in the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing.

The ITV favourite fronts Good Morning Britain from Monday through to Thursdays on the news programme.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
