EastEnders Shane Richie unrecognisable after becoming drag queen for new role

Former EastEnders star Shane Richie looks unrecognisable after transforming into a drag queen for his latest role.

The 58-year-old played Alfie Moon on the BBC soap for 17 years, from 2002 to 2019, and has recently starred in a new venture.

Shane now has a role on tour in hit stage musical Everyone's Talking About Jamie, which sees him don makeup and a wig as he becomes drag queen Loco Chanelle.

In a snap shared with his 251,000 Instagram followers, Shane can be seen with rolling ginger curls, bright red lipstick and large fake eyelashes.

He captioned the photo: "Woking @newvictoriatheatrewoking you didn’t let us down !!! Wonderful catching up some old faces and meeting some new #soldout @jamiemusical #livetheatre #dragqueen #locochanelle #jamietour."

Several famous faces and fans rushed to the comment section of the post, which has garnered over 1,200 likes.

Broadcaster Victoria Derbyshire simply wrote: "Amazing pic."

One fan said: "You look amazing as always."

"What a face!" said another.

There were also a few people who had seen the latest instalment of the musical and left gushing praise.

One person said: "Was there at Woking. Was such a brilliant show. We absolutely chuffing loved it."

Another added: "Incredible show we came to see the performance this afternoon in Woking …Absolutely brilliant."

West End smash hit Everybody's Talking About Jamie has now been turned into a film starring Sharon Horgan.

The coming-of-age story was inspired by the 2011 documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16.

It is based upon the real-life story of schoolboy Jamie Campbell who battled against prejudice to become a drag queen.

This comes after Shane's as his ex-wife Coleen Nolan said the EastEnders star’s wedding proposal to her was a disaster.

She moaned: “He just said, ‘Shall we get engaged then, or what?’

“The first thing we did was go for a McDonald’s – renowned for its intimate atmosphere – before finding a branch of H Samuel and buying an engagement ring for about a 100 quid.

“Not exactly Romeo and Juliet, is it?”
