Focaccia art is the latest lockdown baking trend on Instagram
As lockdown has progressed, we’ve seen clear food trends emerge.
First came the banana bread, then the sourdough, followed by the pancake cereal – but now there’s a new trend that’s dominating Instagram feeds: focaccia art.
People are turning their focaccia bread into beautiful artistic creations and sharing their bakes on social media.
The hashtag #focacciaart has racked up more than 2,500 posts on Instagram so far, showcasing a plethora of designs and shapes.
Woodland and natural scenes appear to be the favourite with bakers and they’re often made up of fresh herbs or vegetables.
Home baker Caroline O’Donnabhain was inspired by some of the bakes she had seen on Instagram, so attempted her own floral design which featured peppers and herbs.

Caroline tells Metro.co.uk: ‘I saw a few on Instagram and thought I’d give it a go as we often make focaccia in our house.
‘I love the idea of using foraged herbs and flowers, as well as vegetables like peppers – so this trend fitted in very well with the type of cooking I enjoy.
‘It’s such a creative way of baking, plus I’ve been working from home during lockdown and have had much more time in the kitchen.’
Pastry chef Keiron George was also inspired to dip his toe in the trend, after seeing some photos from baker Teri Culletto.
He posted a snap of his masterpiece with the caption: ‘Flower Power! This garlic and rosemary focaccia smells AMAZING…and ain’t she a looker?!!’
Keiron tells Metro.co.uk: ‘I love creating pieces of edible art – it’s something I do daily with my cake designs. After being inspired by Teri Culletto, I knew I had to give it a go for myself.’

Which do you prefer…Baked or unbaked? With Morel Season coming to a close here I wanted to share my favorite photo I’ve ever taken one more time. This “Foragers Focaccia” is made with morels, violets, and stinging nettle from our local woods as well as pea shoots, wild chives, sage, and pansies from our garden. Foraging and using what you have is something near and dear to my heart. Making due in a way that makes you feel like you’re thriving instead is something that I hope to embrace and carry throughout this lifetime. Lauren – of Instagram account @mustloveherbs – also foraged the decorative ingredients herself.
‘My forager’s focaccia was inspired by a spring day spent foraging in the woods as well as the garden,’ she says.
‘Morels are often the goal, but wild edibles such as violets, nettle, pansies, chives and pea shoots make for a true bounty.’
