Gareth Southgate linked to CHAMPIONSHIP team by bookies as reality bites for England
GARETH SOUTHGATE has been linked with a return to Middlesbrough by the bookies.
The FA fear the England boss will quit his position in two years time when his contract expires.
Championship side Boro and Crystal Palace are both priced as Southgate's next club at 8/1.
It would be a nostalgic move for the 48-year-old, who played at both teams.
Southgate's remarkable job with the Three Lions at the World Cup is quickly being forgotten about after England's recent reality check.
He watched his side suffer a humbling defeat to Spain before a disappointing performance in their 1-0 win over Switzerland.
And Southgate is yet to commit his future to England, after talks broke down over a new deal.
Betfair: Gareth Southgate next club
Crystal Palace 8/1
Aston Villa 12/1
Man Utd 16/1
Betfair Spokesperson Katie Baylis said: "While Southgate still has a couple of years to run on his contract with England, with murmurings of some stumbling blocks on further contract negotiations with the FA, there is now speculation on where the England Manager would head after his time is up with the national side.
"Having helped Middlesbrough to League Cup success and Crystal Palace to promotion glory those two teams are 8/1 favourites to be his next destination.
"Everton and Southampton are next in the betting at 10/1 and 11/1, while Manchester United are at 16/1.
"But to get a glamour club gig, he will surely have to have some silverware behind him at England in the form of a Euros or World Cup trophy."
