I'm going stir-crazy at home because I can't train with a broken leg

DEAR DEIDRE: I’M climbing the walls at home because I can’t train since I broke my leg.

I’m a guy of 29, obsessed with triathlons. I hit a pothole on my racing bike and ended up in hospital for a week.

I’ve been home for a month and can’t do anything.

I can’t even work, as I’ve been furloughed.

Before, I was overweight.

That’s changed since I started doing triathlons but I fear the weight will pile back on now I’m injured and in isolation.

DEIDRE SAYS: I can understand your frustration but explore what you can do rather than focusing on what you can’t.

You should have been referred for physio.

Ask for an exercise plan that will build up muscle strength as soon as possible and burn calories.

For diet guidance, see nhs.uk/live-well.

And how about doing an Open University course (open.ac.uk) to get something positive out of this time?
