Junya Watanabe MAN Issues Backpack-Infused Jacket With MYSTERY RANCH

Though Junya Watanabe‘s menswear label, MAN, ought to be best known for its no-nonsense, rugged menswear styling, the Rei Kawakubo protege’s calling card these days is his sheer volume of collaborative apparel. More than ever before, the past few years have seen Watanabe working with a larger group of brands than ever before, making one special joint effort his signature design.

That design, of course, is the backpack-infused jackets that Watanabe has rolled out over the course of several seasons, primarily with The North Face. Spring/Summer 2021 sees Watanabe rejoin The North Face, of course, but the COMME des GARÇONS designer has a history of also recruiting more niche imprints to bring his whims to life and such is the case for this special edition garment, created by the outdoor specialists at MYSTERY RANCH.

As the In & Out Jacket’s name implies, it hybridizes MYSTERY RANCH’s bag of the same name with a lightweight shell ideal for seasonal exploration. Issued in a versatile mix of earth tones and grey, the garment is pieced together from a mix of technical fabrics and, as usual, a king’s ransom of straps, pockets, buckles and dangling accoutrement. Branded solely on the rear, the jacket is lacking nothing: every angle is packed with breathable vents, zippered nooks, adjustable tabs and elastic panels for a comfortable fit, reflecting Watanabe’s detail-obsessive design approach.

If you’ve got a craving for adventure, pony up $2,010 USD for the jacket over on Dover Street Market New York’s web store.
