Meet Magnolia Earl, the first adopted Gerber baby

Meet the new Gerber Baby! Not the same as the old Gerber babies!

Magnolia Earl, age 1, made history by winning the 10th annual Gerber Baby Photo Search. She’s the first adopted baby to take on the famous role.

Magnolia beat out 327,000 other contestants for the coveted spokesbaby title because of her “joyful expression, playful smile and warm, engaging gaze,” the judges said, according to media reports.

Magnolia lives in Ross, Calif. with her parents and two older siblings. Her mother, Courtney Earl, issued a statement saying she and her husband had learned of Magnolia’s May 9, 2019 birth and were able to “connect with her amazing birth parents” before adopting her.

“Adoption is incredibly special to our family’s story,” Earl said. “Winning Photo Search is an opportunity to tell Magnolia’s story and shed light on all the beautiful and different ways families are made.”

The couple have remained in contact with Magnolia’s birth parents, who watched the Earl family Friday on NBC’s “Today” show when Magnolia was named the big winner, Courtney Earl said.

Gerber held its first national photo contest in 1928. The winner was Ann Turner Cook, now 93, who was the face of the brand until the new annual contests began in 2010.

In 2019, Kairi Yang, made history as the first Gerber baby of Hmong descent. Lucas Warren became the brand’s first spokesbaby with Down syndrome in 2018.
