The origins of the sudden Tom Brady-Brett Favre lovefest
Brett Favre didn’t just randomly show up at a Buccaneers game on Sunday in a “Tompa Bay” t-shirt. The Hall of Fame quarterback has a bond with Tom Brady.
“I love Brett. I’ve known him for a long time and gotten closer and closer with him over the years,” Brady told reporters on Sunday. “I’m a huge fan of who he is and the player he was, and the father he is, the husband he is. He’s just a wonderful man.”
Favre had created headlines last week by criticizing Bucs coach Bruce Arians for harsh comments about Brady after a Week 1 loss to the Saints.
“I think the last person you want to call out after the first game of the year is Tom Brady,” Favre said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “Now, maybe they had a mutual truce going into the game, going into the season, ‘Hey, I’m going to be hard on you. I want the guys to know we’re going to treat you the same even though technically I’m not, so are you OK with it?’ If they have that truce, great. If not, I think you are barking up the wrong tree.”
With Favre in attendance, Brady bounced back, leading Tampa Bay to a 31-17 victory over the Panthers. He completed 23-of-35 passes for 217 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Arians raved about his performance, calling it “outstanding.”
