This Is Why the British Royal Family Is So Upset With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Netflix Deal, Source Says

Though there was a ton of speculation regarding how Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry would adjust outside of the royal bubble, it appears that just six-months after their final royal engagement, the couple is thriving.

Meghan was only a royal for a short time. Therefore, living in her native California feels welcomed and familiar, especially since she no longer has to abide by certain royal rules and she can use her voice and platform the way she sees fit.

Prince Harry seemingly had a more challenging time. He had been a royal his entire life, and existing as a private citizen was something he’d never experienced. Still, it appears that the duo has found their footing and their financial independence with a massive Netflix deal. Unfortunately, the royal family is terribly upset about it.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were stifled by the British royal family

In just the few short months that the Susexes have lived in the United States, they’ve been doing well. They spent time away from the spotlight to carve out a new career path for themselves that includes charity work, speaking engagements, their Archewell foundation, and Netflix.

The pair along with their son, Archie Harrison, have also found their forever home, a $14.7 million estate in Santa Barabara that gives them the space and privacy that they’ve been craving. Best-selling author Omid Scobie revealed on his podcast, Heirpod that this proves how much the pair were being stifled. He said,

The couple had been thriving and have taken their careers as philanthropists to a whole other level. It shows how much they were held back by tradition, hierarchy, and stubbornness within the institution. This is the couple operating in a way they were desperate to for some time but couldn’t for a number of reasons, many of which tie into what is considered too politically sensitive or not.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle didn’t inform Queen Elizabeth II about their Netflix deal

Though there had been whispers that the Sussexes were shopping a secret project in Hollywood, no one knew about their Netflix deal, not even Queen Elizabeth II. A royal insider told US Weekly,

Harry did not inform the Queen about the Netflix deal. Her Majesty is all too aware of the pitfalls of when senior royals embark on lucrative projects—Prince Edwards’ production flop and some of the deals Sarah Ferguson has signed over the years to name a few. Her view is simple, the Royals are not for sale and danger surrounds high profile roles outside of the institution itself. But knowing her grandson Harry as she does, the Queen will know there would have been little chance of talking Harry and Meghan out of it.

This morning, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was christened in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle at an intimate service officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are so happy to share the joy of this day with members of the public who have been incredibly supportive since the birth of their son. They thank you for your kindness in welcoming their first born and celebrating this special moment. Their Royal Highnesses feel fortunate to have enjoyed this day with family and the godparents of Archie. Their son, Archie, was baptised wearing the handmade replica of the royal christening gown which has been worn by royal infants for the last 11 years. The original Royal Christening Robe, made of fine Honiton lace lined with white satin, was commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1841 and first worn by her eldest daughter. It was subsequently worn for generations of Royal christenings, including The Queen, her children and her grandchildren until 2004, when The Queen commissioned this handmade replica, in order for the fragile historic outfit to be preserved, and for the tradition to continue. This is why the British royal family is so upset with the Sussexes’ Netflix deal

The Sussexes’ Netflix deal includes documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows, and children’s programming according to The New York Times. However, the royal family is not at all thrilled about.

A royal insider told Entertainment Tonight that the royals are, “concerned Meghan and Harry’s deal will distract from the work of other senior royals including Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William, Prince Charles, and Camilla Parker Bowles.” After all, Netflix is a massive platform.

However, royal expert Katie Nicholls has reported that the Sussexes to know exactly what they’re doing. She explained,

There are some members of the institution who are concerned that the couple are going to cash in on their royal connections. But sources close to the couple tell me that they are very adamant that anything and everything that they do is very much going to be in a respectful tone to the Queen, the monarchy, and very much on their missions.

We’re excited to see the content the Sussexes come up with.
