‘American Idol’ Recap: Top 7 Sing Disney Songs and Pay Emotional Mother’s Day Tributes

After the Top 7 finished their performances, season 17 ‘American Idol’ winner, Laine Hardy, returns to the show to close out the Disney segment by singing ‘Life Is A Highway’ from ‘Cars’.

AceShowbiz -“American Idol” returned with a new episode on Sunday, May 10. The new episode revealed the Top 7 who were performing twice that night. They first sang one Disney song before performing a song which they dedicated to the mother figures in their lives to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Arthur Gunn, who was the first contestant revealed to be safe, opened the night with a performance of “Kiss the Girl” from “The Little Mermaid”. It was so good that the judges, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, called him a “potential superstar singer.”

Following it up was Just Sam who offered a stunning performance of “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes” from “Cinderella”. Also joining others in the Top 7 was Jonny West, who belted out “Almost There” from “The Princess & The Frog” as he showed off his piano skills.

Louis Knight was the next contestant to make it to the Top 7. He performed “The Lion King” classic “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”. Fellow Top 7 singer Julia Gargano then sang the title track from “Beauty and the Beast“. The judges thought that it was a little “low” for her range, but that didn’t change the fact that the performance “was amazing.”

The last singers who were revealed to be among the Top 7 were Francisco Martin and Dillon James. Francisco opted to sing “You’ll Be In My Heart” from “Tarzan“, while Dillon performed “Cars” OST titled “Our Town”.

After the Top 7 finished their performances, season 17 “American Idol” winner, Laine Hardy, returned to the show to close out the Disney segment. He performed an incredible rendition of “Life Is A Highway” from “Cars” while playing his acoustic guitar from his front porch.

For Mother’s Day tribute, Arthur sang “Hey Ma” by Bon Iver with Just Sam singing a beautiful rendition Christina Aguilera‘s “I Turn To You” for her grandma.

Jonny, meanwhile, opted to sing “Amazing Grace” from his home. He put his own spin on the song by adding lyrics to honor his mom. Louis then showed off his skill by performing “You’ve Got a Friend” which successfully brought Katy to tears.

Performing Adele‘s “Sweetest Devotion” was Julia as her mom joined her by her side. Katy cried over the performance while Luke called it a “bada** performance.” As for Francisco, he dedicated “River” by Leon Bridges to his mom.

Concluding the night, Dillon returned with an emotional performance of “Hang On, Hang On” by Amos Lee.
