Nigel Havers who played Lewis Archer in Coronation Street has hinted at a shocking return after his exit from the cobbles on New Year’s Day last year when he suffered a heart attack. In a conversation with Lorraine Kelly today on Good Morning Britain, the actor hinted there could be a lot in store for ITV favourite Audrey Roberts (played by Sue Nicholls) in a shocking return.

Lewis Archer rocked up in Weatherfield back in 2009 and it’s fair to say, he was a character that viewers loved to hate.

He was a conman, a part-time male escort, and played the women of Coronation Street like a board game.

Lewis died on New Year’s Eve last year after collapsing from a heart attack and was found by his beloved Audrey.

It took until he died for anyone to really understand just how much he loved her, but it seems despite all his wicked ways, he did, in fact, think the world of her and was set to propose to her the night he died.

He wasn’t always a romantic though, and after an on-off relationship with Audrey, he tried multiple times to con her out of huge amounts of money.

Lewis also tried his luck with not just Gail Platt (Helen Worth) but also Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride).

Audrey continued to dismiss the other residents’ suspicions and Lewis continued to leave her hanging by a thread, but things came to a head when he finally tried to become the man she wanted.

Audrey was broken when she found him collapsed last year, but when £80,000 disappeared from her bank account all arrows pointed to Lewis.

This was in fact not the truth despite Audrey sticking to her guns about Lewis’ dodgy ways.
But now, Nigel who played Lewis has dropped a massive bombshell about a possible return to the cobbles, although it might not be in the form viewers think.

Nigel joined Lorraine on Good Morning Britain today and she was very interested to know about his time on the ITV soap.

Lorraine began: “Can I talk to you about Corrie, because we loved you, we loved to hate you. Lewis was such a cad and a bounder but he had a massive impact, everybody talked about him.”

Nigel explained: “I know he was such a character. Years ago I played a character in a show called The Charmer, which was set after the Second World War and in a way I think they took that character and modernised him.

“They put him in the 21st century, so it was an amazing character to play and in the end, you do realise that I was in love with Audrey.”

Lorraine chipped in: “Yes I know a little bit of redemption, although we have to say whilst you were in love with Audrey, you did go out with her daughter, and her best friend, so there was that.

“So what is all this about the character, about Lewis having a twin brother, a look-a-like twin brother in Australia. Is this true? Is this going to happen?”

Nigel continued: “Sue Nichols who plays Audrey who is a good friend of mine and just the most wonderful person and a wonderful actress.

“She was very upset, genuinely upset when I keeled over.

“And she said as I left: ‘Listen, you do know you have a twin brother living in Australia, so brush up on your Australian accent.’”

Lorraine was impressed and echoed: “You see I think that could work. I’m not kidding you, especially right now when we need some huge drama.”

So, could viewers soon get a glimpse of Lewis’ twin brother and how will Audrey react when this blast from the past threatens to upend her life once again?

Could she be looking to leave the cobbles for good to finally get some closure and escape the thought of Lewis once and for all?

Coronation Street airs on ITV Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm
