Coronation Street viewers have watched Emma Brooker (played by Alexandra Mardell) go through a challenging year after her partner Curtis Delamere (Sam Retford) revealed he’s suffering from a heart condition. However, viewers recently discovered Curtis hasn’t got any heart problems at all and instead has a mental health condition called a factitious disorder, where he convinces other people he’s ill. According to official ITV soap spoilers, Emma will soon discover the truth about her fiancé. But, will the revelation have an impact on their wedding day?
In upcoming scenes on Coronation Street, as Emma babysits Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) and Ruby Dobbs (Macy Alabi) she goes to switch off Curtis’ TV Doctor DVD.
However, she’s puzzled when she hears the Doctor using the same phrase Curtis used on the night of the storm.
As Emma and Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) discuss the coincidence, they’re horrified to realise that Ruby has swallowed one of Curtis’ pills.
Later on at A&E Emma shows the doctor Curtis’s pills, explaining how he suffers from a heart condition.
However, she’s left confused when the doctor confirms Ruby’s fine as the pill she took was only a vitamin.
Back at home, a shell-shocked Emma assures Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) it was a false alarm as Ruby just swallowed a vitamin tablet.
Curtis returns home later, making out he’s exhausted after his run.
However, it’s not long before Emma confronts him with the pillbox and demands answers.
Desperate for answers, Emma quizzes Doctor Handley about Curtis’ condition, but he refuses to be drawn.
Feeling frustrated, Emma later calls Nevill (Mark Cameron) and also attempts to grill him about her fiancé’s illness.
Hanging his head in shame, Curtis eventually comes clean and admits he’s not dying.
He explains to Emma how he first feigned illness when his parents were getting divorced, enjoyed the attention but once he’d started, he couldn’t stop.
When Emma asks about his medical training, Curtis confesses that it was also a lie.
Devastated by the lies, Emma says she’ll never be able to trust Curtis again and orders him to pack his bags.
However, before she can share her news, Emma’s dad Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) tells her about the £4,000 Curtis raised and how they want to thank him.
Later in the week, Emma agrees to accompany Curtis to his appointment with the psychologist.
She listens in, overwhelmed, as Curtis explains how he’s spent years convincing people he’s dying as he enjoys the attention.
Curtis assures Emma he intends to get better and loves her more than anything in the world.
He insists their fast-approaching wedding day could be the best day of their lives, but will Emma agree to go ahead with their wedding plans?
Emma later explains to her half-sister Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) that Curtis is suffering from a factitious disorder and he’s seeing a psychologist.
Amy’s astounded by the news and insists Emma can’t marry him and must tell the family the truth.
Meanwhile, unaware of Curtis’ lies, a drunk Steve hands him his bank card and PIN, asking him to transfer the £100,000 they raised to Oliver’s charity account.
Curtis opens his laptop and takes out Steve’s bank card. Could he end up stealing the charity money for himself?
Worried about how Emma’s family and the rest of Coronation Street could react to discovering his lies, Curtis may want to do a runner.
If he stole the charity money he would be able to start over somewhere new, but would he be willing to leave Emma at the altar on their wedding day?
Coronation Street continues Monday at 7:30 pm on ITV.
