EastEnders Liam Butcher star's transformation and career change 11 years on

Everyone remembers where they were when the Butcher clan made their return to Albert Square.

Returning in 2008 after a nine year break, Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) and returned to the East End with a gaggle of kids in tow.

There was moody teenager Whitney (Shona McGarthy), holding a dark secret and traumatic childhood, mini-me Tiffany (Maisie Williams) and her child with Ricky Butcher (Sid Owen), Liam.

But a lot has changed in the 11 years since the Butchers’ revival. Whitney and Tiff are still presences in the soap, whilst both Bianca and Ricky departed.

But happened to actor James Forde, who played Liam Butcher? Well, it turns out he’s gone through something of a transformation over a decade on, which includes a career change too.

When did James Forde star in EastEnders?

James Forde was not the first actor to play the role of Liam Butcher. The child of Ricky and Bianca was previously played by Sonny Bottomley, Gavin and Mitchell Vaughan and Nathaniel Gleed.

But it was Forde who took on the role upon Liam’s return to the Sqaure in 2008, and is still the most recent actor attached to the part, following his departure in 2015.

During his time in EastEnders, Liam was involved in a myriad of plots, most notably his struggles with dyslexia, becoming involved in a gang who eventually mug Tamwar Masood (Himesh Patel) and his burgeoning relationship with Cindy Williams (Mimi Keene).

Liam would eventually leave the programme in 2015 with Cindy, after blackmailing Ian Beale (Adam Woodyat) with the secret that his son Bobby killed Lucy.

What is James Forde doing today?

After deciding to leave the soap, Forde appears to have retired from acting, and instead has chosen a more vocational career path.

According to his social media, he’s now employed as a builder, and is seen often updating his fans on his job, posting a host of selfies in his work gear.

In fact, he categorises himself as an ‘Ex-actor, now Bob the Builder.’

Don’t count on a comeback to the Square anytime soon…
