Liam Cavanagh (played by Jonny McPherson) has had it rough the last couple of months with the death of his daughter Leanna Cavanagh (Mimi Slinger) and his wife Leyla Cavanagh’s (Roxy Shahidi) miscarriage. Colleague and friend Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson) also handed in her resignation, which Liam tried his hardest to stop. Will the stress of all the drama push Liam to make a life-changing decision, leaving Leyla heartbroken?

In upcoming scenes, Leyla notices that her husband has been behaving oddly since he started his new job at Hotten General.

She heads to the hospital to talk to Liam but is stunned and confused when she finds out that he allegedly doesn’t work there and has made up his new job.

Feeling annoyed and taken back by his lies, she confronts Liam and tries to get the truth from him, but to her dismay, he pushes off her questions.

His evasive reply leads Leyla to fear he is hiding something and after Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) makes a flippant comment, her mind begins to spiral, thinking he is having an affair with Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles).

Leyla soon sees Liam putting flowers into the back of his car, which leads her to convince Priya Kotecha (Fiona Wade) that they need to follow him.

The pair follows Liam to a house with a ‘For Sale’ sign outside, leaving Leyla even more confused about what her husband is hiding.

When Liam later returns, Leyla is thrown by his happy mood and the fact that he is still claiming to have been at work all day.

Liam’s continuous lies begin to become more painful for Leyla, and she soon decides to look through his sat-nav history to see where he has been going.

Priya disapproves of Leyla’s approach to Liam’s lies and encourages her to talk to her husband rather than sneak around.

Will Leyla tell him what she knows? Or will Liam spill the truth before she confronts him?

Could Liam’s dishonesty lead to more heartbreak for the medical expert if Leyla decides enough is enough and splits with him?

Liam has been grieving the death of his 18-year-old daughter Leanna who died earlier this year and then was given the news that Leyla has lost their baby she was pregnant with.

He has also had the recent news of colleague and friend Wendy Posner quitting the doctor’s surgery due to early life revelation.

She feared her secret that she wasn’t a trained nurse would be revealed leading to her arrest, but Liam begged her to stay.

Wendy asked, “Look, the reason I’m here is to ask if you’ve reported me yet…” to which Liam shook his head in denial.

“Liam, you have to, I can’t bear this, making things harder for you than it already is,” she begged him.

Interrupting her, Liam said: “I don’t want you going anywhere, okay? Right now, you’re the only person I can talk to let me get you a coffee.”

Liam told Wendy he had binned her resignation letter and wanted her to keep working the practice with him.

These revelations encouraged fans to theorise that Liam was leading Wendy down a dark path.

Fans discussed that there could be another death in the village at the hands of Wendy as she continues to lie about her nursing degree.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
