Gavin & Stacey fans are in for a treat as two of the show's biggest stars are set to reunite for a new comedy.
Ruth Jones, who co-created the hit sitcom with James Corden as well as playing Nessa, will star alongside Rob Brydon, who played Uncle Bryn, in forthcoming BBC special Gaynor & Ray.
The characters were known for their unlikely close friendship in Gavin & Stacey, including a famous scene where they performed duet Islands in the Stream at a party for Gwen (Melanie Walters).
However, their relationship in Gaynor & Ray is very different as they will play the title characters who are newlyweds after meeting just six months earlier.
The Comedy Playhouse special will air on BBC One and iPlayer, and will feature the couple in their fifties who have both been married before.
Although their previous relationships didn't work out, Gaynor and Ray will be hoping that they've found lasting love second time around, although they'll discover there is still a lot to learn about each other.
Ruth co-wrote the 35-minute comedy with David Peet, and the pair have shared a description of the storyline.
It reads: "We join Ray and Gaynor on their honeymoon to the Scottish Highlands where they meet a variety of characters and situations. And having only met six months ago, there are many things – not all of them endearing – that this couple keeps discovering about each other, often begging the question have they done the right thing?"
Gavin & Stacey ran for three series at the BBC and delighted fans by returning for a Christmas special in 2019, 10 years on from its last episode.
There has been speculation that the sitcom could make another comeback as it left things on a cliffhanger when Nessa proposed to on-off romantic interest Smithy, played by co-creator James Corden.
But Smithy had just introduced the group to his snooty new girlfriend, leaving fans wondering whether he would finally see that he was meant to be with Nessa, who he shares a son with, and end his new relationship.
In recent years James has carved out a successful career as the host of The Late Late Show in the US and also presented the recent Friends reunion.
