Jensen Ackles Developing Supernatural Prequel About the Winchester Parents

The original star of the series is set to executive produce with his wife Danneel Ackles and narrate the spin-off, which focuses on Sam and Dean’s parents.

AceShowbiz -There’s apparently more to tell from the Winchesters after the end of “Supernatural” last year. A new prequel series focusing on the parents of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) is currently in the works with one of the original stars being involved.

Jensen and his wife /producing partner Danneel Ackles are set to executive produce the project titled “The Winchesters“, which is now still in early development at The CW. The network has handed out a script commitment to the drama, which hails from “Supernatural” writer Robbie Thompson. Robbie is also executive producing alongside the Ackles couple.

Described as an “epic, untold love story,” the potential new series would explore how the Winchester parents, John and Mary, met and “put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.” Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith played the couple on the original series. Their involvement on the prequel is still unconfirmed, but Jensen will return as Dean to narrate the show, which is told from his perspective.

“After ‘Supernatural’ wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. Because like we say in the show, ‘nothing ever really ends, does it?’ ” Jensen said in a statement to Deadline. “When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the ‘Supernatural’ origin story.”

He further divulged where there idea for the prequel came from, “I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”

“The Winchesters” marks The CW’s third attempt to launch a spin-off of “Supernatural”. Both “Bloodlines” and “Wayward Sisters” were previously introduced as backdoor pilots, but they were never picked up to series.
