The Grand Tour presents: Lochdown sees hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May travel to the Outer Hebrides for their latest venture. The trio had to stick to the Scottish highlands due to the travel restrictions imposed by COVID-19. But the latest in the Amazon Prime series saw Jeremy label Richard “an idiot” after a mistake caused his boat to sink in front of him.
The group were attempting to build a bridge to reach a small island when they ran into trouble.
“It turns out Hammond has never used an outboard motor,” Jeremy explained.
“Pull the cord!” The 61-year-old called to Richard, who was stuck on how to secure the boat.
“Where’s the cord?” He replied. Jeremy yelled: “It’s in the top, there!”
“I got it,” Richard replied. “It works! How do I make it move?”
Jeremy instructed: “Twist the thing – there you go. HMS Hammond is underway.”
Richard was tasked with using his boat to move part of the bridge they had built so it could connect with the remaining section and reach the island.
As he attempted to still the boat in order to attach the bridge, James commented: “In your own time, quick as you like.”
As he got close enough, Jeremy threw Richard some ropes to use. Standing on the “bridge” Jeremy hoped Richard could manoeuvre the structure.
“Job one, tie on,” he said. “Now, pull me along, go, go, power!”
But as Richard sped up the boat, the ropes pulled off part of the boat he’d attached them to.
Jeremy laughed and fell to the floor as James commented: “Oh, give me strength.”
“You’ve pulled the b****y fishing rod holder off!” Jeremy remarked.
Richard responded: “Well I didn’t tie it to the fishing rod, why did you tie it to the fishing rod?”
“I didn’t tie it to the fishing rod, you blithering idiot,” the broadcaster commented.
But Richard still attempted to travel with the bridge attached. “Right,” he stated. “Are you ready? We’re setting off.”
But as he did, the 51-year-old was plunged into the cold water as the boat tipped over.
“It’s gone upside down again!” He called to Jeremy. But the boat continued to sink to the depths below.
“Oh jeez, how has it done that?” Richard asked as Jeremy watched on, laughing.
“Weirdly, none of the other locals would lend us a boat after that,” Jeremy reflected in the narration.
