Kate Garraway, 53, made her return to Good Morning Britain back in July as it was explained she would be filling in part-time for Susanna Reid, 49. The presenter had been absent for several months after her husband Derek, 53, was admitted to hospital and put into a medically-induced coma to battle coronavirus. With her spouse having regained a minimal level of consciousness, the ITV news show host made a comeback on screen, much to the delight of viewers, but she will be leaving her role once more. As she explained why she was stepping away, the mother-of-two gave a heartbreaking message to her fans and viewers.

The presenter will only be missing for a week as she wants to spend some quality time with children Darcey and Billy before they return to school in September.

She began: “I’m actually not here next week, I’m off helping Billy get sorted for secondary school, Darcey as well get into school, and also Derek looks after things on that.”

“I just want to say thank you to all of you for being absolutely brilliant since I’ve come back through challenging times and everybody here, you and Ben and Adil and all the people on and off-screen, you’ve been amazing.”

Taking to Twitter, viewers commented on Kate’s departure, with one writing: “#gmb Good luck Kate, and try and fit in some rest, too!”

Another added: “@kategarraway #GMB What a wonderful inspiration you are to your children, your husband will be so proud of you. The country has its arms around you at the moment Kate.”
