SEAL Team airs every Wednesday evening on CBS in the US and Sky One in the UK. The series has been on screen since 2017 and fans are awaiting news on the future of the show. In the show’s fourth outing, fans have had to say goodbye to several characters including Mandy Ellis (played by Jessica Paré) and Erik Blackburn (Judd Lormand). Why did Blackburn leave SEAL Team? has everything you need to know.

Why did Blackburn leave SEAL Team?

Judd Lormand has been a part of the SEAL Team cast since season two in 2018.

In the series, he played the role of Erik Blackburn who was known for always putting the BRAVO Team first.

Sadly, Lormand has had very little screentime in season four of SEAL Team.

His character Blackburn was replaced in the BRAVO Team by Lieutenant Wes Soto after he announced he had been offered a promotion in episode seven, titled All In.

Blackburn shared he had been promoted to Commander and assigned as Executive Officer of DEVGRU and would no longer be assigned to BRAVO.

Eagle-eyed fans have spotted in the credits of episode three Lormand was no longer listed as a series regular and instead is noted as a special guest star.

Why exactly Lormand has decided to step back from SEAL Team remains unknown for now.

Lormand himself has not spoken about his role on SEAL Team since his final appearance in episode seven.

Blackburn’s move away from the Bravo Team could be explained by the show’s commitment to remaining close to reality.

The truth is, people do move on and up in their careers and sadly this may come with the cost of loving characters and actors viewers love.

showrunner and executive producer Spencer Hudnut explained to Deadline: “Our show strives to be as authentic as possible to the experiences of our service members, and similar to real life, SEAL Team units change and evolve so in our show some of the characters move on as well.

“Over the last 3 seasons, we’ve seen how war takes a toll not just physically but mentally and emotionally. In this new 4th season, many of our characters will be at a crossroads and confronting tough decisions in their careers.”

Will Blackburn return to SEAL Team?

With his character’s recent promotion, it looks like Lormand may actually be exiting the show for good.

On the other hand, there is a huge possibility Lormand could return in future episodes and seasons in a guest role capacity, so fans should not give up hope entirely.

According to The Futon Critic, Lormand will reprise his role as Blackburn in the season four finale, titled One Life to Live.

He is listed as a recurring cast member alongside Tyler Grey, Scott Foxx, Parisa Fakhri and Rachel Boston.

At the moment, very little is known about the season finale which will air on Wednesday, May 26 on CBS.

In the meantime, CBS has issued a short synopsis to keep fans in suspense.

The synopsis reads: “Bravo takes a devastating hit that will change the team forever, and forces each member to make major personal decisions, on the fourth season finale of SEAL TEAM.”

Fans of SEAL Team have been sharing their thoughts online about Blackburn’s exit.

Reddit user WhiskeyGolf00 said: “I mean, if he stayed with the show entirely it would be a little weird. Officers rotate out of postings a lot faster than enlisted.”

One fan tweeted: “It’s hard to watch Soto. We miss Blackburn. #sotosucks.”

A second fan said: “All hail the King! #Blackburn #SEALteam.”
