Skilyr Hicks' haunting last Facebook post about how music 'keeps her alive' before sudden drug addiction death

ARTIST Skilyr Hicks wrote about how music “made her” and “kept her alive” in a harrowing Facebook post – months before her sudden death.

The ex America's Got Talent contestant, 23, was found lifeless at a home in Liberty, South Carolina on Monday following a “mental health and drug addiction battle”.

In June, Skilyr said: “It’s (music) is my life, the breath in my lungs, and it's the steady beating of my heart.

"It has helped me to heal me when no one else could. It has helped me cry the tears that I was holding onto for so long.

"It has showed me that I don't have to put on this so-called "metaphorical mask" that everyone seems to be putting on these days (sic).

“That I don't have to hide my pain, that it's ok to show how you feel, it's ok to be YOU. It has touched a deep part of my soul that before I never knew existed.”

The artist continued: “Every song I write is a different story. It's not just lyrics and a tune, it's an expression of how I feel, it's the pain, it's the laughter, the tears, and the heartbreak that I have known.

“It has touched other people in ways I never would have imagined possible. And just being able to make a difference in someone's life, even in the smallest way, is the most amazing feeling for me.”

Skilyr said she doesn’t write songs because “she’s expected to”.

She added: “I write them because it's the one thing in this world that makes me truly happy. And I hope that one day, you too, will find that one thing.”

The artist’s mom Jodi told TMZ that her daughter was found “lifeless” in the property of a friend.

The exact circumstances and cause of Skilyr’s death are still unknown to the family.

When she was 14, Skilyr appeared on season eight of AGT. The young musician auditioned for judges Mel B, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Howard Stern.

The singer shared an emotional story during her audition.

She explained that she had lost her father a few years before the audition, revealing in a confessional: "He made some bad decisions and I hadn't seen him in a few years.

"The last time I saw him I remember driving away and he was crying."

Skilyr continued: "After his funeral, I wrote my first song. It's kind of like a message that came too late for my dad, but I know if he could see me now he would be really proud of me."

She revealed how she taught herself how to play the guitar, write and sing.

Skilyr was eliminated before the live rounds in New York City.

The singer was arrested for alleged underage drinking in 2018, according to TMZ.

In 2017, she was charged with multiple counts of family violence, WRDW reports.

Her elder sister Breelyn said at the time that she didn’t believe the musician deserved charges.

She said: “We didn’t press [charges]. The state did.”
