Spoilers: Ian plans a huge surprise for Sharon in EastEnders

Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) may be Sharon Watts’ (Letitia Dean) oldest friend in EastEnders, but he’s been filled with guilt and self-hatred as a result of the fact that he locked her son Dennis Rickman (Bleu Landau) in a room below deck prior to his death, but he’s determined to make her smile once more and therefore he plans a surprise.

Ian was horrified back in February when Bobby (Clay Milner Russell) was the victim of an Islamophobic attack — something that was orchestrated by Dennis — and therefore he set off in search of Dennis as he sought revenge.

After locating the young man aboard the party boat, he locked him in the room below deck in order to sober him up, but when disaster struck and the boat crashed, he returned in an attempt to rescue him.

However, tragedy ensued, as — in spite of Ian’s efforts — Dennis died, and he’s been living with the guilt of such a thing ever since.

The fact that he and Sharon have been friends their entire life only makes the situation all the more harder for him to bare — especially as Dotty (Milly Zero) has been threatening to blow the lid on the whole thing.

In the coming episodes, Ian’s seemingly determined to put a smile on Sharon’s face, as he plans a surprise for her.

The question is: just what is it that he’s got in mind?

And will it do the trick?

Sharon recently departed Walford and headed to visit old pal Michelle (Susan Tully) in Australia.

One to watch: Tuesday 5th May at 7:30pm on BBC One.
