Script writer Kay Mellor has planned for season four to film in Las Vegas, but the COVID-19 restriction meant this wasn't possible.

“Lockdown has been a roller-coaster of emotions for all of us,” Mellor told Bustle.

“Once it became apparent how serious things were getting with COVID-19, I started to get worried about America because of their COVID rate being so high.”

“I had been to Monaco, probably only two years previously, so I remembered it, and remembered the casinos and hotels, and how you feel when you’re there – poor basically,”

“Unless you’ve got a lot of money in Monaco, you feel like a fish out of water. And I thought to myself, ‘actually, Monaco feels more relevant’.”

Hotel Metropole, Monte Carlo

Hotel Metropole provides the setting for Frank's 5-star break in the series.

Actor Neil Morrissey said: “We obviously didn’t get to stay overnight, but just filming there was a great experience. We were filming in this amazing suite and I did a scene in the bath.

"It’s a really glamorous bathroom and I’ve got chocolates on the side of the bath, a glass of brandy in my hand and my character’s dog is setting there next to me, which was all very nice!”
