UK Weather – Balmy Brits head to the beach as temperatures reach 18C after fog makes way for glorious sunshine
BRITS have flocked to beaches as temperatures reach 18C – after heavy fog hit England this morning.
Crowds soaked up the sun as the mercury soared past 18C in Southampton, London and Exeter after morning fog patches cleared.
Sunbathers stripped off and enjoying themselves on beaches in Portsmouth and Dorset.
While others enjoyed the balmy weather on Brighton's famous pebbled beach.
It comes after the Met Office issued a yellow fog warning for eastern, southeastern and southwestern parts of England this morning as drivers were warned of chaos on the roads.
The warning was in place from 4am to 10am and travel disruptions were issued – including public transport delays and flight cancellations.
Despite the foggy start, people in south and eastern England are enjoying a fine and warm afternoon, which is likely to carry over the weekend.
A band of rain could be seen across Scotland and Northern Ireland, turning lighter and patchier as it reaches northern England and Wales.
Low cloud with light drizzle will continue southeastwards tonight, with some patches of mist and fog in the mornings.
On Sunday, most parts will be dry with sunny spells while breezy and showery conditions remain across Northern Scotland.
